Founded by Annette Innes in 1989, Hahndorf & District Physiotherapy Service is a centre of physiotherapy excellence based in the historic village of Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills.
We are a family friendly practice, and we are happy for you to bring a family member or friend to your consult if you wish.
We offer you peace of mind with:
- Appointments are usually 30 minutes or longer in a private room.
- Our Physiotherapists are professional, respectful and are all registered with The Physiotherapy Board of South Australia.

Meet our team
Annette Innes - Practice owner & Women's Health physiotherapist
Since graduation (1971), Annette has enjoyed working as a physiotherapist in several areas if clinical interest.
Her interest in Women’s Health began early, highlights being her first Pelvic Floor Course conducted by Dr Pauline Chiarelli in 1983, University of South Australia Graduate Certificate in Women’s Health (1994), and being awarded the Australian Physiotherapist Association Continence and Women’s Health Physiotherapist (2011).
She has supported her professional association at a state and national level on committees (including a term as APA SA Branch President) for more than 20 years.
Before returning to SA in 1989 (when her husband retired from the RAAF), and settling in Littlehampton, Annette worked overseas, in Canada and Singapore, and in several Australian states.
In July 1989 she bought a small part time physiotherapy practice in Hahndorf. 21 years later Hahndorf & District Physiotherapy Service is known for its skilled and professional care, and is highly recommended by its many loyal clients. Annette's name is synonymous with "Hahndorf Physio" with 5 physiotherapists now continuing the tradition of excellence.
Annette is a committed member of the Littlehampton Uniting Church, and enjoys scrapbooking, and taking care of her beautiful granddaughter, Hannah Grace (she claims no bias!).
Carolyn Smith - B App science (Physiotherapy)
Carolyn has been a valued member of our team since 2005. Graduating in the early 80’s, she has developed specific interests in musculo-skeletal physiotherapy, foot & ankle, shoulder problems / injuries, & the treatment of back pain in pregnancy.
Carolyn has also undertaken additional professional training in Muscle energy techniques, Myofascial & trigger point therapy, Western acupuncture & dry needling, use of the Gaitscan & Real time ultra-sound for hip disorders.
Outside interests include being a Nordic Walking instructor, (nordicwalkingsa.com.au) as well as camping, bush walking, reading and socialising with friends.
Michelle Bessen - B Appl Science, (Physiotherapy); Masters in Musculo-skeletal Physiotherapy.
Before joining the team at Hahndorf Physio in 2006, Michelle worked predominantly in private practice including as owner of a physiotherapy clinic at Modbury for ten years.
Her special interests are in sports physiotherapy, headaches & orthopaedic rehabilitation.
Michelle has two young children and loves cycling, jogging and is a member of the Hahndorf Softball club.
Pip Wade - Dip Phty; Dip MT; PG Cert Occ Health; MBA ( Professional Services Marketing ) New Zealand.
Pip has a wicked sense of humour and is a great asset to the practice with her extensive experience in musculoskeletal physiotherapy.
Her special interests include the diagnosis & management of neck & back problems, acupuncture, Occupational Health & Safety, Professional services marketing, and the management of the long term injured & off work patient.
Pip has post graduate qualifications in Manipulative physiotherapy, & Occupational Health. She has undertaken ongoing professional training in manipulative therapy, acupuncture, occupational health, & the management of the injured worker.
Pip has many years experience of mentoring and training undergraduate & post graduate physiotherapy students, manual handling & occupational health training, as well as project work in the marketing of professional services.
Pip offers Occupational Health assessments in the workplace eg: workstation assessments, work site assessments, job analysis, functional capacity evaluations and pre employments assessments
Outside interests include flying small aircraft, cooking, craft work, entertaining and she is a Rotarian.
Angela Pfitzner - B. Appl Science; Graduate Certificate Physiotherapy.
Angela admits to being qualified as a physiotherapist for more than 21years!
Angela has a special interest in Women's Health, including continence, pelvic floor dysfunction, pregnancy/ post natal musculo-skeletal and post- natal exercise classes, as well as spinal / pelvic pain, core stability work, and hydrotherapy.
Angela is a mother of two children, enjoys keeping fit, by walking, weight training and using the gym.
Max Sopp - AUA, MCSP, FASMF. Locum physiotherapist.

Max has had a long and distinguished career as a physiotherapist. He has given many years of service to the Australian Physiotherapy Association, as President of the SA Branch and SA Delegate on the National Body, Chairman of the Private Practitioner Special Interest Group committee and state representative on its national committee. He served as President of the Australian Sports Medicine Federation in S.A. and a state representative on its Federal committee and has been awarded a fellowship of the ASMF. He ran a very successful North Adelaide private practice which included postoperative, sports, general and geriatric treatment for many years.
Hahndorf Physio is privileged to have Max "drive up the hill" to work with us on a locum basis. His skills in assessment and treatment, his professional and conscientious manner and great sense of humour are appreciated by our clients and staff.
Trish Crouch -
Bachelor of Physiotherapy.

Trish Crouch joined our team in July 2010. After graduating with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of South Australia in 2008, Trish moved up to Queensland to live in the sun and work in a general musculoskeletal private physiotherapy practice. She has Pilates qualifications and experience in teaching Pilates classes and 1 on 1 Pilates training. Trish has interests in treating Women's Health and general musculoskeletal problems and is also conducting Pilates and Fitball classes, Pregnancy water classes and Hydrotherapy (Aquatic Physiotherapy) at Hahndorf Physiotherapy. In her spare time Trish enjoys walking her dog, staying fit and having a good laugh.
Office & Support Team
Sue Paech - Practice Manager
Sue has worked with Annette, the practice owner, since 1991, and became the Practice Manager in 1998.
Sue is well known and respected by our clients, having previously worked with the local GP practice at Hahndorf, Mt Barker & Nairne.
Sue is married with two adult sons, & five grandchildren.
Her passions are grandchildren, Football (Port Power) reading, walking & visiting Bali.
Sue has lived in the Hills most of her life, and appreciates the needs of the local people.
Julianne Kaesler - Receptionist
Julianne has worked for the practice since 2006.
Over the previous ten years, Julianne ran the office of Kaesler Bros P/L, & prior to that was a stay at home mother, after nine years as a bank teller for Westpac.
Julianne is married with two adult children, three grandchildren, and has lived in Hahndorf since getting married. Julianne describes herself as a community leader.
Julianne's interests are her family, sport: AFL, she coaches netball, walking and cycling.
General Information
Appointments
Appointments are essential and can be made by calling our clinic.
Consultations are usually 30 minutes or longer for specific services.
If you are unable to keep your appointment please notify us as soon as possible so that we may schedule another time. If unable to attend an appointment, please give 24 hours notice.
While we try to be aware of individual circumstances, a $30 non attendance fee is usually charged if adequate notice not given. This fee is not claimable through health funds, Work Cover or MAC.
Referrals
As Physiotherapists are primary contact practitioners, referral from your doctor is not essential to obtain a health fund rebate. However, it is wise to see your doctor for a referral for Workcover and Motor Accident insurance treatment.
We like to know of other health professionals that may be treating you. This ensures that you receive appropriate treatment to achieve the best results for you.
After hours
After hours & home visits are offered for those who are unable to attend the rooms, particularly those in severe pain who have been confined to bed (there is an additional fee for this service).
Physiotherapy Products
We stock a range of books, DVD’s, neck & back supports, cushions/ pillows, orthotics, fit balls, tapes and bandages, and can access additional specific supplies for our clients. These can be ordered direct via AOK, and the goods will be delivered to you.
Concession Rates
Medicare does not cover Private Physiotherapy treatment, unless requested by your doctor through the Enhanced Primary Care Programme. There will be a gap payable on the day of treatment.
Pensioners & Health-Care Card holders who pay on the day of treatment, will receive a discount on most treatments.
Hahndorf & District Physiotherapy Service is a Members First Mutual Community Provider. We are able to offer on the spot rebates for all Health Funds through Hicaps and have Eftpos available.
Hours of Operation
We are open Monday to Friday 8:00am – 5:30pm and on Saturdays by arrangement.
