Real-Time Ultrasound [top]
Hahndorf & Distric Physiotherapy Service have vast experience with Real-Time
(diagnostic) Ultrasound.
Diagnostic Ultrasound has been used by the medical profession since the
1970's, and by Physiotherapists in the last 15 years. The frequencies for
diagnostic, or Real-Time Ultrasound are much lower than for therapeutic
ultrasound, and there is no heating effect or radiation, and it is safe,
being used by doctors in obstetrics.
At Hahndorf Physio, the Real-Time Ultrasound is used mainly as a biofeedback
tool. In real time (that is, while the movement is being performed) muscle
action can be seen on the screen by the client, enhancing their awareness
and ability to learn to use speciifc muscles. We use Real -Time Ultrasound
in core stability training for the back and hips, and for pelvic floor
muscle awareness and rehabilitation.
EMG (Electro-myography) Biofeedback is also used at Hahndorf physio to train
and "down-train" muscle which are under or overactive. Our
Musculo-skeletal, Sports and Continence and Women's Health Phyiotherapists
have access to this innovative ground-breaking technology.

Ultrasound can aid your recovery.
Continence & Womens / Mens Health [top]
Continence and Women's Health Physiotherapist Annette Innes has more than
30 years experience in the management of bladder and bowel problems,
prolapse and pelvic pain, in children, men and women. Trish Crouch and
Michelle Bessen have joined the Continence team with ongoing professional
development in this area.
MALE PROBLEMS with incontinence, pelvic pain and erectile function are
treated by Annette. She recommends a consult BEFORE Prostatectomy (Radical
or TURP). Annette takes the time to discuss WHAT to expect and HOW to
MINIMISE INCONTINENCE through CORRECT pelvic floor muscle action.
Follow up AFTER the surgery is useful also. CORRECT TECHNIQUE and TIMING of
Pelvic Floor Muscle action has been shown to reduce the post operative
incontinence and erectile dysfunction which has in the past been associated
with Prostatectomy.
We utilise Real Time Diagnostic Ultrasound and Biofeedback for assessment
and treatment of male and female pelvic floor issues.
Please contact Annette so that she can send you an information pack before your first consult.
